Legacy Feast 2013 Celebrates Area Leaders and Great Food
Leaders from all over the Capital Region gathered in May to celebrate the things that make our region great: outstanding people, locally grown food, and remarkable public places. John DiStasio of SMUD was recognized as the Environmental Impact winner, Dale Carlsen of Sleep Train for Economic Impact, and Beth Hassett of WEAVE for Community Impact. Tionne Johnson, a college-bound senior from McClatchy High, won a special $2,000 scholarship in honor of Miles Treaster, a colorful business leader who served on Valley Vision's Board and had a sizable impact on many arts, environmental and social causes in the region. New Los Rios Chancellor Joins Valley Vision Board
Dr. Brian King, the new Chancellor of the Los Rios Community College District, recently joined the Valley Vision Board. Dr. King has served as Chancellor since this February. He previously served as President/Superintendent of Cabrillo College in Aptos, California, and as a faculty member and administrator in the Springfield, Missouri community college system. He has more than 20 years of community college teaching and administration experience.

 

New President of Mercy General Joins Valley Vision Board
Edmundo Castaneda, the new president of Mercy General Hospital, has joined the Valley Vision Board. Edmundo comes from Tenet Healthcare Corp.'s Sierra Medical Center in El Paso, Texas. As CEO of the 351-bed regional medical center, he led a hospital that specializes in open heart and thoracic surgical services. He also created a regional brain and spine institute and oversaw clinical integration slated to be completed by year-end. Edmundo took over the president's post last fall. Mercy General is part of the Dignity Health system.

The Hunger Project

Valley Vision joined with the Community Link and the Sacramento Hunger Coalition to develop a plan with priority action items to alleviate hunger in Sacramento County. The work was supported by a one-year Hunger-Free Communities Grant from the USDA with additional support from Sierra Health Foundation.
