2013 Community health needs assessment

Project Overview:
In the Greater Sacramento region, not-for-profit hospitals actively engage in a number of practices that aim to improve the health of the community, commonly known as community benefit. Some community benefit practices include providing healthcare services without compensation, providing financial and other support to community organziations and programs, offering education programs within the community, conducting research, and more.

The 2013 Community health Needs Assessment (CHNA) is a group effort by the four not-for-profit healthcare systems in the Greater Sacramento region. Every three years community needs assessments are done to measure and improve the health status of our region's two million residents. Through collaboration and consultation with the broader community, a CHNA is produced to inform and direct community benefit efforts and to ensure that programs are serving those with the greatest need.

Sponsored by the four nonprofit healthcare systems serving our region and working with many community partners, Valley Vision led the 2010 assessment, which is available here.

Key Deliverables:

  • Working in consultation with the community, conduct research that identifies the health status of the Capital Region's large population; identify more vulnerable populations and their pressing healthcare needs.
  • Compile and analyze data into a comprehensive report and interactiv website detailing the health status of our region's resident by ZIP code: www.healthylivingmap.com
  • Prepare a comprehensive final status report and publish in printed form and online (www.healthylivingmap.com)
